Turquoise Caribbean water off Negril's West End

Things to Do in Negril

The cliff is the first attraction

Some of the best parts of a stay are already outside your room. Start here, and save the taxis for later in the week.

01

Best for · clear, deep water without leaving home

Swim From the Cliffs

Our steps down the cliff lead to a ladder straight into clear, deep Caribbean water. A cliff swim is a different pleasure from a beach one: no sand to cross, no chairs to claim, and the reef right there beneath you.

Pro tip: Conditions change daily. Ask the desk about the sea before you go in, and swim with a buddy your first time.

02

Best for · reef life before breakfast

Snorkel Beside the Resort

One of the West End's great snorkel spots sits right beside the cliffs, just steps from your room. Visibility and marine life change day to day, which is half the fun of going back in.

Pro tip: We have a few snorkel sets to borrow. Stay visible to boats.

03

Best for · the slowest possible day

Pool, Loungers & Sun Decks

A freshwater cliff-top pool for cooling off and lazy afternoons, and loungers on more than one level of the cliff for reading, napping, and enjoying the sunny weather.

Pro tip: Morning sun on the decks is gentler; the loungers nearest the edge get the best breeze.

04

Best for · the West End's nightly show

Sunset From the Cliffs

You do not need to leave the property for Negril's famous sunset. Pick your spot ten minutes early, order a drink, and stay for the color after the sun is gone.

Pro tip: The footer of our site shows tonight's sunset time, live.

05

Best for · starting the adventure at home

Boat Pickup From the Cliffs

When the sea allows, a trusted captain can collect you at the ladder right below the resort: guided snorkeling at the day's best spots, a Booby Cay run, a coastal cruise, or a drop at Seven Mile Beach. The journey becomes part of the outing.

Pro tip: Tell us at least a day ahead. We confirm the operator, lifejackets, and the return plan before you board.

06

Best for · doing nothing, beautifully

Watch the Boats Go By

The sea in front of the cliffs is its own show: fishing boats heading out in the morning, catamarans gliding past through the day, and a parade of sails around sunset. Claim a lounger and let it all drift by.

Pro tip: The loungers nearest the edge have the front-row seats.

07

Best for · cat people and everyone else

Make Friends With Fred

Get to know our staff, and our resort cat, Fred: one of the most loved and photographed cats in Negril. You will find him relaxing around the property and being fed by Dino.

Pro tip: Fred always has time for a photo.

08

Best for · arrival day and swim days

A Seaside Meal

Breakfast and lunch over the water daily, and dinner cooked to order when you ask by 2pm. The shortest possible distance between a swim and a plate of Jamaican food.

Pro tip: Arrival night is the night to keep it simple and eat at home.

Boats, reefs, and a tiny island

Negril rewards getting on the water at least once. We arrange these with operators we actually know, and we confirm the details that matter before you commit.

09

Best for · a castaway hour or two

Best Reef Spots & Booby Cay Island

A captain who knows the coast takes you to the day's best reef spots, then on to the small island off Negril's coast: snorkeling, a scramble ashore, and, if you arrange it ahead, fresh fish cooked on the beach. Best done as a half-day.

Pro tip: Agree the food plan and return time before departure; the island has no facilities to speak of.

10

Best for · reef views without getting wet

Glass-Bottom Boat

The easy way for mixed groups to see the reef: snorkelers slip over the side while everyone else watches the same fish through the floor. Good with kids, grandparents, and reluctant swimmers.

Pro tip: Morning trips usually get the calmest water and the best visibility.

11

Best for · celebrations and groups

Sunset Cruise or Catamaran

Sail the coast as the sun drops: quieter cruises, social party boats, or a private charter for your group. The West End cliffs look their best from the water at golden hour.

Pro tip: Quiet cruise or party boat is the real decision; settle the mood before the booking.

12

Best for · a floating tiki bar

Tiki Pon Da Sea

A motorized tiki bar that cruises Negril's coast: drinks flowing on board, swim stops, Booby Cay picnic runs, and a sunset cruise along the cliffs. As fun as it looks from shore.

Pro tip: Cruises run from morning through sunset; the golden-hour run is the classic.

13

Best for · Negril from the sky

Parasailing

Lift off from a boat over Seven Mile Beach and see the whole sweep of Negril at once, the beach on one side and the cliffs on the other. A short thrill with a long view.

Pro tip: Calm mornings fly smoothest.

14

Best for · anglers and certified divers

Fishing & Diving

Negril supports inshore and offshore fishing charters, and dive trips from first-timers through certified divers, all through vetted specialists.

Pro tip: Bring certification cards for diving; ask about seasickness-friendly boats for fishing.

The West End and the beach

The quiet cliff side is your home base; the famous sand is minutes away. Both are better with a little local advice.

15

Best for · a slow daylight stroll

A West End Wander

West End Road is a lived-in neighborhood of homes, small hotels, bars, and cliff spots, not a resort strip, which is exactly its charm. A daylight walk shows you the Negril most visitors never see.

Pro tip: Go in daylight, pick a turnaround point before you set out, and take a taxi back after dark.

16

Best for · a classic sand-and-swim day

Seven Mile Beach

Negril's legendary sweep of pale sand: warm shallow water, long walks, beach bars, and watersports.

Pro tip: Quiet sand and beach-bar energy live at different spots along the seven miles; the right drop-off point makes the day.

17

Best for · a quiet, natural beach day

Half Moon Beach

A calm, unhurried cove past the roundabout in Green Island: shallow clear water, a rustic beach restaurant, and a little offshore island you can boat to. The peaceful counterpoint to Seven Mile.

Pro tip: Give it a day's notice; the ride out and the little boat to the island both need lining up.

18

Best for · the ride you will talk about for years

Horseback Riding Into The Sea

Ride through the countryside at Rhodes Hall, then straight into the Caribbean, where the horses swim with you on their backs.

Pro tip: Wear clothes that can get soaked and book the morning ride for calm water.

19

Best for · the high-energy sunset

Rick's Café at Sunset

Negril's famous sunset ritual: cliff divers, music, drinks, and a wide-open horizon. Go for the spectacle at least once, then come home to our quieter version the other nights.

Pro tip: Arrive well before sunset and arrange your return ride in advance; it gets busy.

20

Best for · the classic Negril night out

Live Reggae On The Beach

Negril's beach bars host live reggae nights with bands on the sand and the sea behind the stage. Loud, friendly, and exactly what you hoped a Jamaican night would be.

Pro tip: Check who is playing this week, and arrange your return ride before you go.

21

Best for · eating like a local

Buy Local On The Beach

Part of a beach day is what comes to you: fresh lobster, fresh juices and fruit, baked goods, and local snacks sold right along the sand. Bring small bills and an appetite.

Pro tip: Agree the price before you buy; lobster is seasonal, so ask what is fresh today.

22

Best for · mangoes, papaya, and whatever is ripe

Visit The Fruit Market

Pick up the week's fruit the way locals do: mangoes in season, papaya, pineapple, bananas, and things you may not recognize yet. Ask the vendor to pick you one that is ready today.

Pro tip: Go in the morning for the best selection, and bring small bills.

23

Best for · souvenirs made in Jamaica

Visit The Craft Market

Carvings, jewelry, art, and gifts from local makers at Negril's craft market. Take your time, chat with the artists, and haggle kindly; it is part of the fun.

Pro tip: Agree the price with a smile before money changes hands.

24

Best for · the classic lunch on the go

A Famous Jamaican Patty

Stop at a local bakery and have a proper Jamaican patty, flaky, spiced, and best eaten warm. Add fresh bread or a pastry for the walk back.

Pro tip: Pair it with a cold Ting.

25

Best for · an evening the Jamaican way

Play Dominoes With Locals

Dominoes is Jamaica's great table game, played loud and proud. Join a game with locals at No Limit Bar up the road, or ask at the desk and start one right at the resort.

Pro tip: Watch a round first; the slam takes practice.

26

Best for · a nature walk almost nobody knows

Royal Palm Reserve

A boardwalk through the Great Morass, Negril's wetland: royal palms overhead, herons and hummingbirds, and barely another visitor in sight. The quiet green side of Negril, ten minutes from the sand.

Pro tip: Go early or late for the birds, and bring bug spray.

27

Best for · the quiet end of the road

The Deep West End

Keep going past the crowds and West End Road turns quiet and green: garden walls, sea glimpses, and Negril at its most unhurried. Stop at Just Natural, a garden restaurant where you eat fresh Jamaican cooking under the trees.

Pro tip: Go for lunch and eat under the trees.

Waterfalls, rivers, and the South Coast

Half-day and full-day trips from Negril. Pick one anchor, add at most one stop, and keep the next day slow. That is the pace Jamaica rewards.

28

Best for · a river walk in the hills

Mayfield Falls

Wade up a jungle river through pools and small falls with a local guide. Closer than YS, and more hands-in-the-water than a viewing-platform waterfall.

Pro tip: Wear water shoes and bring a dry change; rain upcountry can change conditions overnight.

29

Best for · a cool-water adventure inland

Blue Hole Mineral Spring

A deep mineral spring near Brighton with a high jump for the brave and a ladder for everyone else, plus a mineral pool beside it. A fun half-day that pairs well with a lazy afternoon. Wabba's, nearby, runs ganja field tours for the curious.

Pro tip: Secure footwear, arranged transport, and no shame in taking the ladder.

30

Best for · a guided river-and-falls walk

Benta River Falls

A guided walk up the Benta River through small falls, natural pools, and a cave, quieter than the famous falls and very hands-on. Good water shoes and a sense of play are the whole packing list.

Pro tip: This is one we arrange end to end, guide and transport together; good water shoes do the rest.

31

Best for · ATVs, ziplines, and adrenaline

Jamwest Adventure Park

An adventure park near Little London with ATV trails, ziplining, horseback riding, and driving experiences. The pick when someone in the group wants speed instead of another swim.

Pro tip: Book ahead; the activities can be matched to whoever is riding, from kids to speed demons.

32

Best for · culture, ATVs, and an ital lunch

Rastasafari Experience

Ride ATVs through the countryside to a Rastafarian village for music, farming, craft, and an ital lunch cooked over the fire, then cool off swimming alongside locals. Part adventure, part the most genuine cultural stop around Negril.

Pro tip: Half a day well spent; morning departures beat the heat.

33

Best for · the postcard waterfall day

YS Falls

Seven tiers of falls in South Coast countryside, with pools, rope swings, and gardens. One of Jamaica's most beautiful days out and worth the drive.

Pro tip: Pairs well with Black River or the Pelican Bar.

34

Best for · rum lovers and rain days

Appleton Estate Rum Experience

The island's most famous rum, tasted where it is made, deep in the Nassau Valley. A long inland drive rewarded with history, cane fields, and a generous tasting.

Pro tip: Appoint a non-taster: it is a long ride home after a generous pour.

35

Best for · crocodiles and mangroves

Black River Safari

A guided boat up Jamaica's largest river through mangrove wetland, with crocodiles, birdlife, and a captain full of stories. Easy boarding makes it good for all ages.

Pro tip: Pairs naturally with YS Falls; both sit on the same South Coast run.

36

Best for · a drink on a sandbar

Floyd's Pelican Bar

A driftwood bar standing in the sea a quarter mile offshore. You wade in, drink a Red Stripe surrounded by water, and wonder how it survives storm season. It keeps getting rebuilt; that is the charm.

Pro tip: Rustic on purpose: no facilities, cash only, and the boat ride is half the experience.
